There is something different about a river in Florida versus a river in the midwest. I'm not sure if it's the proximity to the ocean, or how many people are keen to live on it (not really a common thing in my area to want to live all that close to the riverbank - floods, y'know), or what it is, but walking along the riverfront park in Fort Lauderdale feels like a different world. The first time we came into Fort Lauderdale for my interview (an experience not shared on my blog and really not documented at all except for two or three photos), I was amazed at the amount of boats and activity on the rivers and canals all throughout the area. I always thought TV shows depicting a restaurant where boats would dock like people would drive them instead of cars was a fancy lie. It's not. It's just still totally amazing to me. Which is why it always is nice to stumble upon little tidbits of home, like a random clock made in Cincinnati in the middle of this little park.

I've been a little homesick lately - this is the longest I've been without visiting my home town in my life - so a nice riverfront walk was actually something that reminded me of days at Newport on the Levee back home with Jason. Over the years, I've realized that certain memories make me feel 'home', and I'm never quite sure if it's because I'm reminded of the place or merely memories where I was truly at peace. Anyhow, this was a really nice relaxing evening walking along the river then dining at a local restaurant - short rib grilled cheese, loaded tots, and key lime pie in a mason jar. Yum yum.

The weather here in the summer is different than any other summer I have had in my life - and geez, I have never, ever seen so much lightning! Which is why this little lightning necklace from crave jewelry is the perfect accessory for a South Floridian (or really anyone in southern/tropical/lightning heavy weather). Walking the dogs has become a challenge - as has taking photos at the exact right time. While taking these photos we were watching the storm clouds roll in, scared of not getting back in time from our dog walk/photo shoot (two birds, one stone) trip.

Visiting Downtown Disney almost seems like a requirement of being in Orlando these days. I'm not sure why - but it's weird to me to think that I have been to Downtown Disney more times than I have my hometown this year. In fact, this year is the longest time I've gone without going back to Ohio (8 months now) so that's a weird feeling. Anyhow, I've been trying to capture some new Downtown Disney photos while I'm there because I've noticed I have a tendency to take photos of the Stitch at the entrance of World of Disney like I've been exclusively hired to do so.

We had dinner at Old Hickory Steakhouse in the Gaylord Palms resort - it's not far from where my in-laws live and has the most amazing cheese course. Plus the interior is a dream for photos because the lighting is beautifully even and the place is weirdly like being outside but inside.

Years ago, I somehow became a Yelp Elite. I'm actually not sure how this really happened, other than I wrote a lot of reviews in a short period of time because I was freshly out of college and unemployed. I've kept reviewing things thought the years and kept the mark, despite the central Pennsylvania area lacking a Yelp Elite community. When I moved, I started getting event invites! It's been great too - all the travel and eating out we do actually benefits us. We attended a Yelp 10th Anniversary event at a local restaurant and enjoyed some delicious food and cocktails. Free mojitos made with prosecco? Basically my dream come true. Unfortunately, I took like not a single decent photo while at the event - it was really crowded and I had trouble catching a moment where the food stood still enough to snap a photo. Always disappointing, but I'd rather have it in my mouth than on my camera!

For the first two-ish years of my blog, time often felt like it was standing still. The months couldn't pass quickly enough until we got to the next thing - Jason being done with grad school, getting out of Pennsylvania, and basically getting on to the next step in our lives. It's strange how when you are waiting for the next big thing how slowly time goes. But these past few months have flown by. I'm in constant shock at how much time has passed and how quickly it's gone. Weekends fly by these days, and I'm always surprised when it's somehow Wednesday and I'm feeling like it's Monday.
