I have seen all sorts of adorable chalkboard things popping up lately - most notably these spice jars. I also remember falling in love with these chalkboard name tags on a wedding on Once Wed awhile back - and only recently did it pop in my head that I could SO combine these two things into a DIY. This is a fun, free-hand activity with lots of paint and chalk. I might have dropped the chalk through the cracks on my porch a lot (my downstairs neighbors love me, and by that, I mean they actually hate me).
What You'll Need
White Shipping Labels (I chose 8.5" x 11" sheet and freehand, but you could just use pre cut ones!)
Chalkboard Paint
Paint Brush
Chalk
Exacto (Or scissors could work)
Scrap Cardboard or Cutting Board (If using an Exacto)
First, paint your shipping labels with two coats of chalkboard paint and let dry.
Trace or freehand shapes similar to the spice jars. You can make a variety of shapes! I used a silver sharpie on the black, but hey, white chalk would have worked PERFECTLY here because it would have been erasable. Oops. Hindsight, am I right? Then cut out the shapes with an Exacto or pair of scissors - your choice.
Peel the labels off and place onto your cups! It's actually easiest to write on them first, but you erase the chalk pressing the sticker on. So, I suggest putting them on first and then writing. This way they are already prepared and you don't have to worry about people being unable to peel the backing off.
This is adorable! I had no clue they even made minty/ colored chalkboard paint! I would love to use these on coffee jars and stuff in my cabinet too!
ReplyDeleteOh I've seen these on Pinterest and loved them! I didn't even think you could maybe DIY your own! You are so creative. I LOVE the minty green ones :)
