The Farm Show

Apparently, the big thing every year here in Harrisburg is the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Giant butter sculpture, fried vegetables, live animals, and a lot more all in one place. I missed it last year, but with my friend Shauna's strong recommendation, decided we needed to go this year. When in Rome, am I right? The best part was the potato donut - it was airy, fluffy, and better than any normal donut I have ever had ever.

I was pretty excited to take photos next to a tractor, but it proved difficult to pose in front of sheep as Jason's allergies flared up. We left with him red eyed and sneezing. And you know, I don't look at all awkward next to sheep (*sarcasm*). I'm a city girl, born and raised, and it shows here. It was a strange experience - a lot of fried food, sweat shirts, and people pretty much staring at me left and right. I thought this was the perfect kind of outfit for a farm show - you know, as close as I own to boots, a June Carter-Cash-ish skirt, and animal rings.

  6. I love fairs and festivals, but sometimes farm shows are a little too much for me...especially when all you can smell is the animals and manure. The food is always yummy, though!

    1. Yes! It was really off putting like in the parking lot you could smell it! Jason was really freaking out about the poop the whole time, it was kind of funny.

  7. Potato donuts, eh? Interesting. I love potatoes in all of their glorious forms, so I am sure I would have inhaled a dozen....Also, had never been to s state fair (or anything like it) until moving to Minneapolis, and now I love going to them! Butter sculptures? Check. Baby animals? Check. Donuts and french fries and an all-you-can-drink milk stand? Check...Can't wait for summer! :)

  21. that is too funny, I can definitely see people thinking you were a bit over dressed for the farm show, but only because as you said many people do in sweats & it's ok because you look amazing!! I love the flair the wedges add & the coat over that cute skirt. you're the best at winter layers! too bad about jason's allergies but always fun to try something new : ) oh, and were the donuts filled w/ potatoes or made from potatoes? i got excited for a min thinking it was a gluten free thing i could eat but i suppose if it were all potatoes that would just be a big french fry.....

  22. HA! This post made me laugh, just because I spent YEARS avoiding the Farm Show. Except for the milkshakes, gosh those things are amazing. We had kids that we be gone from school for the whole week because of Farm Show - oh rural high schools. Plus, Farm Show always equals snow. Bleck. But, I have to say that I kind of missed it this year going back to school early. Oh, nostalgia. Hope you had fun!

  29. Love your bag! This post is funny to me 'cause I grew up around farms. I'm within walking distance of horses, goats, donkeys, cows, and chickens. I tried to bury my southern-ness growing up but I've finally accepted and grown to love it. Come visit the south and you can get fried anything... Chicken gizzards, mmm. :) (just kidding.)
