Sometimes, I don't want to make things from scratch. Let's be honest, sometimes you need a cookie, you want it quick and easy, and bagged mixes fit the bill. I've been making twists on store bought mix since high school, when some guy who was in marching band with me made the most amazing brownies ever. His secret? Adding more cocoa to brownie mix. That's how I figured out their are 8 million ways to make cookie and cake mix better, and this is my absolute favorite. I suppose this isn't a true recipe, but why not? It's easy to do and delicious, I promise.
What You'll Need
1 Bag Betty Crocker Oatmeal Mix
4 ounces Tart Cherries
4 ounces Cranberries
1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon Allspice
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1 Egg
1 Stick Butter
1 Tablespoon Water
First, preheat the oven to 375 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Soften your butter, then mix together the oatmeal cookie mix with the egg, butter and water as described on the package. Add in the extra spices and stir well. I do this by hand.
Mix in your berries - I got two bags and used about 2/3 of each bag, or four ounces.
Use a spoon and form into tablespoon sized balls onto a cookie sheet. I like to use non stick foil. Cook for 10-12 minutes until lightly browned.
Allow to cool before serving! Store in an air tight container - makes around 24-32 cookies.
Huh. These are fantastic! I'd love to have one with my coffee or tea. My first experience with messing with bag mixes was when my friend made dump cake, involving 1 bag of chocolate cake mix and 1 can of cherries.

I agree...sometimes you just want cookies and boxed mix will do just fine! That usually happens to me with chocolate chip cookies. I get a craving, but it's 10:00 at night and I don't feel like making anything from scratch...and then Betty Crocker saves the day! These look tasty, by the way! I love oatmeal cookies and I love berries, so mixing them would be doubly awesome.
ReplyDeleteYa know - I have just started to do this lately and I will fully admit that I love trying to spice up a box mix. Yogurt, pumpkin, soda - I've been dumping these into cake mixes left and right lately. These oatmeal cookies look fantastic - way better than the Sbux ones which we seem to be picking up several times a week. Gosh you have this preggo gal craving an oatmeal cookie right now :-) <3 Marisa
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever tried spiced berry - sounds so good!
