kyasarin-chan

I have always liked the way my name sounds when translated into the Japanese alphabet. The 'th' sound in my name does not have an equivalent so translates into a much more fun sounding 'kya'. Plus, Birdo from Super Mario is actually called Kyasarin in Japan. I also think it sounds much cuter than my rather long and proper name. In real life, a large lot of my friends, including males, actually call me 'Kafwin' and my husband drops the 'w' to be 'Kafin'. I love my name, don't get me wrong, but I also love the little nicknames that come along with it.

Just don't call me Kathy. Katie. Kate. Not really my name. I won't know who you are talking to. Or Kasey - which is what I went by in school up until the last years of high school. When people stop me using my old nickname and maiden name, I usually don't notice. Awkward!

  4. I love your letter necklace!
I never really had a set nickname of any sort because my name is so short already.
Sometimes people call me Chlo, and it always catches me off guard. I do like it though.

  7. Where is this place? The cat statue reminds me of Jiji from one of my childhood favorite Japanese animated films Kiki's Delivery Service. :)

  8. Katie, Kate, Kathy -- I love your varsity jacket and your nails are the most perfect things in the entire world. I really love that you go by Katherine. I am so not a fan of short cutted names and Katherine is a solid name and I like that you like it! 'Cause I totally don't like mine!

  9. I love this jacket, it is so cute with the dress and that amazing bag!!! Your fox ring is so adorable. I really hate when people shorten my name too I am not a "Jen or a Jenny" I have lots of nicknames but not those ones!

haha I find myself translating people's name to Japanese often. I do find the japanese language to make a lot of words sound cuter ;)

  12. omg omg omg omg your bunny necklace is making me freak! i had one exactly like that that was given to me as a baby. as i got older it was too small to wear around my neck so i started wearing it as a bracelet. then one night freshmen year of college it fell off at a bar and i lost it forever. i'm not really sentimental but i was so upset! so happy to see you have one just like mine - i think i'll buy a new one!

  14. I have always loved the way Japanese names sound.
My sister-in-law's name is Katherine and she makes us call her Rin, since it is in katheRINe...though she used to go by Katie and Kate, but hates it now. Rin is used often in Japan, so it works well. I used to go by Vicki but hate it (unless it is said by people who have known me since I was 18 and younger) and think Victoria sounds better with my married name (and it is my actual name). I don't like when people say my maiden name, but alas, I get through it. haha.

  20. Okay, this jacket is the coolest. I love the contrast of it with all of your feminine pieces. I get what you mean about the name. Everyone my entire life has pronounced my name Elena (it's more like Alana), it never stops.

  21. I hear you about nicknames- I only approve of one based on my name and never respond to anything else... your outfit is so cute, I'm still drooling over your envelope necklace, I might pull out my credit card and get one tonight...

  25. Love that statue and your cute outfit! I love nicknames too, except I get annoyed when people call me Meg instantly without even asking if I mind. Not that I do, but it seems weird to go right ahead and shorten someone's name without making sure it doesn't bother them.

  26. Oh my goodness! Love that cat- also love all the details in this outfit, especially the nails.

Know what you meant about nicknames. "Chris" is what everyone wanted to call me growing up (I quickly straightened such people out.); finally gave up and told people in college they could call me Chris and no one has ever tried again. Lol. Good.

  27. You speak Japanese??!! So cool. I'm awful at picking up languages.

For some reason I always get called Jessica by mistake. I think I was missnamed. LOL!

P.S. Thanks for sharing my DIY sequin hairclip on your Tumblr. I can't wait to see yours when you get a chance to make one. It will be fun to see how you style it in your shorter hair! Hope you had a great weekend!

  42. You are the cutest! I am totally the same way when it comes to my name, Lyndsey. My name is spelled weird to 99% of the Lindseys I know. Also, almost everyone I know calls me Lynny. I like the Lynds MUCH better than Lynny. Ugh. I also like Lyndsey-Meaghan as my mom calls me, or Lyndsey-Sue as my grandaddy calls me haha.
