I have always liked the way my name sounds when translated into the Japanese alphabet. The 'th' sound in my name does not have an equivalent so translates into a much more fun sounding 'kya'. Plus, Birdo from Super Mario is actually called Kyasarin in Japan. I also think it sounds much cuter than my rather long and proper name. In real life, a large lot of my friends, including males, actually call me 'Kafwin' and my husband drops the 'w' to be 'Kafin'. I love my name, don't get me wrong, but I also love the little nicknames that come along with it.
Just don't call me Kathy. Katie. Kate. Not really my name. I won't know who you are talking to. Or Kasey - which is what I went by in school up until the last years of high school. When people stop me using my old nickname and maiden name, I usually don't notice. Awkward!

Kafin is such a cute nickname! I love my name too, but nicknames are always fun and a good way to mix it up a bit. And I love that fox satchel!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday :)
OMG You are Birdo! That's pretty much the best thing ever! Love the outfit :)
ReplyDelete<3 the fox satchel :)
ReplyDeleteLOVING all that jewelry you've got going on! Especially that fox ring (although I think I may tell you that every time you wear it)
ReplyDeleteHappy Fall!

I love your letter necklace!
ReplyDeleteI never really had a set nickname of any sort because my name is so short already.
Sometimes people call me Chlo, and it always catches me off guard. I do like it though.
How do you look so cute all the time? You've picked out things to create the most amazing wardrobe :)

Where did you find that adorable cat statue? I feel like it's so very you :). Love the jewelry, especially the bunny necklace.

Where is this place? The cat statue reminds me of Jiji from one of my childhood favorite Japanese animated films Kiki's Delivery Service. :)
ReplyDeleteit's a park in harrisburg pennsylvania - i really am not sure what the statue is doing here and i still can't believe i found it or understand why it's there.
DeleteI absolutely love your jacket!
ReplyDeleteKatie, Kate, Kathy -- I love your varsity jacket and your nails are the most perfect things in the entire world. I really love that you go by Katherine. I am so not a fan of short cutted names and Katherine is a solid name and I like that you like it! 'Cause I totally don't like mine!
ReplyDeleteI love this jacket, it is so cute with the dress and that amazing bag!!! Your fox ring is so adorable. I really hate when people shorten my name too I am not a "Jen or a Jenny" I have lots of nicknames but not those ones!
ReplyDeletexJennaD
YOUR NAILS! so cute <3
ReplyDeletehaha I find myself translating people's name to Japanese often. I do find the japanese language to make a lot of words sound cuter ;)

Those nails are seriously awesome! You always look so adorable.
ReplyDeleteomg omg omg omg your bunny necklace is making me freak! i had one exactly like that that was given to me as a baby. as i got older it was too small to wear around my neck so i started wearing it as a bracelet. then one night freshmen year of college it fell off at a bar and i lost it forever. i'm not really sentimental but i was so upset! so happy to see you have one just like mine - i think i'll buy a new one!

I love the color of your jacket, and the necklaces and purse are so perfectly you! (You don't have a Corgi necklace do you? I must find one :)
ReplyDeleteI have always loved the way Japanese names sound.
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law's name is Katherine and she makes us call her Rin, since it is in katheRINe...though she used to go by Katie and Kate, but hates it now. Rin is used often in Japan, so it works well. I used to go by Vicki but hate it (unless it is said by people who have known me since I was 18 and younger) and think Victoria sounds better with my married name (and it is my actual name). I don't like when people say my maiden name, but alas, I get through it. haha.

love your nails and jewelry!

Aw you have such cute nicknames! And cute necklaces to boot!
ReplyDeleteGreat jacket! I get your whole not answering to Kate or other nicknames thing. If someone calls me Jen or Jennifer I usually don't think they are talking to me! And those nails are seriously awesome.

Ooo cool Japanese name and other nicknames, I have never heard of Katherine being shortened to Kafin! And I love your varsity jacket, the color and the leather sleeves are so awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI love your japanese name! Cute bunny necklace
ReplyDeleteOkay, this jacket is the coolest. I love the contrast of it with all of your feminine pieces. I get what you mean about the name. Everyone my entire life has pronounced my name Elena (it's more like Alana), it never stops.
ReplyDeletecute outfit! and these photos are gorgeous!

I hear you about nicknames- I only approve of one based on my name and never respond to anything else... your outfit is so cute, I'm still drooling over your envelope necklace, I might pull out my credit card and get one tonight...

Love that statue and your cute outfit! I love nicknames too, except I get annoyed when people call me Meg instantly without even asking if I mind. Not that I do, but it seems weird to go right ahead and shorten someone's name without making sure it doesn't bother them.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Love that cat- also love all the details in this outfit, especially the nails.
ReplyDeleteKnow what you meant about nicknames. "Chris" is what everyone wanted to call me growing up (I quickly straightened such people out.); finally gave up and told people in college they could call me Chris and no one has ever tried again. Lol. Good.
You speak Japanese??!! So cool. I'm awful at picking up languages.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I always get called Jessica by mistake. I think I was missnamed. LOL!
P.S. Thanks for sharing my DIY sequin hairclip on your Tumblr. I can't wait to see yours when you get a chance to make one. It will be fun to see how you style it in your shorter hair! Hope you had a great weekend!
Your nails and the fox satchel are so cute, I like a lot!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your dog is so sweet :)

You are the cutest! I am totally the same way when it comes to my name, Lyndsey. My name is spelled weird to 99% of the Lindseys I know. Also, almost everyone I know calls me Lynny. I like the Lynds MUCH better than Lynny. Ugh. I also like Lyndsey-Meaghan as my mom calls me, or Lyndsey-Sue as my grandaddy calls me haha.
ReplyDeleteI adore this foxy look! lovely!

Inside and Outside Blog
as for names most of my life I use a short form ofmy name Lyosha. I hear my proper and formal name so seldom that I don't actually turn around when someone's calling my full name. Even if it's my mom:)
DeleteSuch a lovely outfit and a cute bag! xx
ReplyDeleteHoly cuteness. There are so many adorable things going on here I do not even know where to look. Your fox nails are probably the best thing I have ever seen when it comes to nail art, esp with the rings!
ReplyDeletehaha YES I love our name in Japanese- it changes SO much. my sisters call me kaffrin, but other than that I've never gone by anything but my whole name. I LURVE YOUR NAILS!!
ReplyDeleteGah, LOVE this outfit!!!
ReplyDeleteglad you dont go by Katie because everyone does and that gets confusing. that's cute what your husband calls you and I'd tot go by your japanese name if I were you- sounds fun! & great outfit, that dress is adorable on you & great w/ that jacket!
ReplyDeletehttp://dusanabotswana.com/
How freaking cute is that jacket over that dress! Don't get me started on the nails ...seriously, I would pay you to paint mine like that!! I am just horrible in that department!
ReplyDeleteHa, you are so not a Kathy! I can't imagine anyone calling you that! Katherine is such a pretty and romantic sounding name in both English and Japanese :)

ReplyDeleteLove the bunny necklace, and those NAILS! How did you manage that?! Definitely the most interesting nicknames I've ever heard for Katherine, and there are a lot of them!
ReplyDeleteperfectly priya
Oh I totally totally understand the name thing. If your name is Katherine, it is Katherine, not any other name!! People like to call me Julie when my name is actually Julia. Julie is a completely different name, as in, you can not substitute it for Julia! Okay, rant over. Basically, I really understand :)
ReplyDeleteJulia
SO in love with the fox bag, I need one! x
