Día de los Muertos Cocktail

I am not a big fan of Halloween, perhaps because here in America it's a lot of awkward costumes and situations I don't like to be in. But the Day of the Dead has always seemed like a much more respectable holiday to me. Instead of being about scary things and candy, this holiday focuses on celebrating people who have passed by visiting graves or altars and eating food and drink they would have loved. Often their favorite things, like cigarettes or tequila are given at the altars. Unfortunately, not many members of my family drink tequila - I'm from a protestant bunch from Kentucky, so alcohol wasn't big in my mom's family. Myself? I love a good margarita, and with the end of the celebration of the Day of the Dead (it's a 3 day celebration, by the way, ending today on All Souls' Day) kicking off November, I figure a nice pear margarita to toast to our loved ones now gone would be a good recipe to share.

What You'll Need
Pear Juice
Lime
Simple Syrup (recipe)
Triple Sec
Tequila Partida Reposado

In a shaker, combine all ingredients. We used 2 parts pear juice, the juice of 1 lime, 2 parts simple syrup, 2 part tequila, and 1 part triple sec. Shake well for 20 seconds.

Strain into a cocktail glass, and serve! Easy to do and yummy!

Also - a note, I hate that it's getting darker earlier. I have to figure out a better way to shoot cocktails - since making them at normal time is having the photos turn out darker than I like. So bear with me a bit here!

  1. Mmm, tequila. :) Next time I have a cocktail party I have to write down some of your recipes. I think dia de los muertos is very interesting, though not something being British I think I have any right to celebrate, but it is beautiful.
