Oh, the bachelorette party. Mine was on a Wednesday, so it was a very different experience than Becki's, which was held in a very crowded, popular part of Cincinnati on a Saturday evening. We enjoyed a tapas style meal at Zula and then headed out on the town, all in matching tees emblazoned with the bride and groom's initials (which also happen to be kind of dirty, but not something you can't talk your way out of. Plus, I think the design is fairly cute, if I do say so myself ). We had a lot of fun, but I was beyond tired when I got home. And a little freaked out at the end - there were a lot of people in these bars, and wow. I don't love crowds.
I have spent a lot of my life taking photos in low light situations - middle school dances, high school parking lots after marching band, nights out with friends, and Disney. These came in handy this weekend at the bachelorette party, I tell you! Here are the guidelines I use for low light.
I am so happy that my best friend Becki is getting married in a little less than two weeks now! As the matron of honor, I got to plan the bachelorette party I've always dreamed of for her - cute, full of girl time with the bridesmaids, and just the tiniest bit naughty. I ordered custom made t-shirts (how lucky are we that our friend Megan's husband works at a screen print shop?!), made lots of cute custom cupcake toppers (there will be a DIY next Monday!), and planned all I could. We started with yummy lunch at the Bonbonerie and then headed for photos at Shaw Farms. It was a bit early for a pumpkin patch, but the setting was perfect and it all worked out beautifully - the weather couldn't have been better.
This is only what we did and wore for the first half of the day. Stay tuned for photos from our evening on Friday!

Can you tell this month's recipe theme is apples? I adore apple cider, but I wanted a new way to get it into drinks that wasn't so cidery. So why not make it into a delicious simple syrup! Yum! I love how this one turned out - it's been great mixed with bourbon and rum so far.
I was really excited to get to try out a few interactive toys for Teemo. Teemo is the kind of dog that doesn't play normal dog games like tug or fetch. He used to get a lot exercise by getting his dinner in this weird kibble ball, but now that he's back with our other dog Raynor, she steals it from him and eats it all, so that doesn't work. It was due time Teemo got some toys to play around with, especially ones that would keep him interested with his 'puppy currency' - food. Planet Dog provided Teemo and I with some cool new interactive toys to try and get him moving. The 'food' we used were treats also given to us by Planet Dog - a nice surprise I wasn't expecting. Puppy treats are hard for us - we only use wheat free - and these were wheat free and sounded delicious - PB&J with blueberries. It was hard keeping Teemo away for this photo - he's right out of the frame of the shot while I'm repeating 'leave it'.
We received a few different toys - I was excited to see what Teemo would end up loving the most. He got really excited about this mint flavored ball, presumably because it has a really strong smell (my whole entire first floor smells minty fresh!). Not only does it smell good (and help Teemo's breath issue!), but it floats and bounces. He runs like I've never seen him to fetch it (his version of fetch, by the way, is get the ball, hide under a chair, and chew it) so our other pup didn't get a chance at getting it. The best part of this ball? 100% of the proceeds go to their non-profit charity for canine service programs.
Next up was the Snoop Interactive toy - the one I was most excited about when I talked with Planet Dog. This new toy seemed interesting - and I wasn't too sure exactly what it was going to be. Basically, this is a semi-circle with two layers and a hole in the center you fill. The treats go in between the two layers and come back out of the hole. This was Teemo's preferred toy as he understood what to do with it quickly and the reward came quicker than with the Mazee.
The Mazee is by far the most interesting interactive toy I've seen - I love that you can see the treats inside because one of our issue with toys where treats are stuffed in is they easily get stuck and you cannot tell. This one was great because Teemo could see and smell the treats - he immediately started pawing at this one and rolling it around ferociously. When the treats didn't tumble out as quickly, he returned to nuzzling the Snoop around while Raynor took the lead of rolling the Mazee all about. And let's be clear, Teemo is my little reviewer here and the star of this blog (he is 'my' dog afterall), but Raynor ('Jason's' dog) enjoyed these too. She figured out the Mazee a lot faster than Teemo and that is her preferred toy.
The big thing to note is these aren't chew toys and you have to make sure you store these after play as most pups (at least mine) will tend to chew on them after since they smell and taste like treats. They aren't meant for chewing, and while durable, they aren't durable enough for crazy chewing. I have seen Teemo tear through an insane amount of things for a dog with an inch overbite, and I am careful to store these in the closet on a high shelf when they are stuffed with treats.

I really haven't been everywhere, but lately I've been realizing how lucky I am I have traveled as much as I have. While most of my international trips happened before I turned 12, I've been able to go a lot of places over the past few years. From drives to common places but through new areas to little work trips to family visits, we've been all over the US. Teemo, my little travel buddy, has been to thirteen different states, and has been in doggie day camp in five of those. Seeing that a lot of animals won't go near the car or really cannot handle it, I think I found my match with this little corgi guy.
PS. This weird license plate thing I've been carrying in my posts is indeed a clutch. I got super lucky with a Kate Spade secret sale. It felt too 'me' not to get it.

A tradition Jason and I have begun since visiting Disney last year on Labor Day weekend is our 'un-anniversary.' What started as a mishap, since I couldn't fly to Florida last year for our anniversary so we reschedule, has become a really fun little event for us. We booked a hotel in Baltimore in June and started looking up yummy places to eat and things to do. We agreed steak would be good, so we both got dressed up for one super nice meal at Capital Grille in downtown Baltimore. We split all of the food, I spilled an entire glass of water all over the table (I am notorious for doing that), and got so full. It was a really nice date night out on the town - I even got Jason to wear a printed shirt (a rarity).

I love apples - as evidenced by yesterday's collection of apple related goodness - and apple season is finally here. Sangria is one of my favorite drinks - but it's usually reserved for summer. I had been playing with mixing bourbon and white wine when Jason suggested adding apple, and it clicked. A yummy apple sangria for fall. This is by far the best sangria we've made - I wanted to take more photos the next day as I took them as I poured us each a glass for Saturday night dinner, but we finished the entire pitcher that night.
