It wasn't until I was recounting the story of these photos with a friend that I realized it's really quite weird to put my dog in a cape. But -if you want something cute for your dog, a cape is basically a glorified bandana to them. There are no armholes or anything fussy - except the bow which Raynor obviously stepped on. Here's a little DIY on how to turn some simple felt into a puppy cape.
What You'll Need
e-Collar/Cone of Shame/Large Half Circle
Felt (About 1/2" yard depending on your dog)
Scissors
Mini pearl stickers
Hot Glue
Ribbon
Chalk
Lay your cone of shame onto felt, and trace. If your dog is much smaller than your cone of shame, simply move the horizonal line in further by a few inches. Cut.
Near the top of the smallest end, hot glue an end of the ribbon as if it were to go inside of the cape. Fold it and glue again. Repeat on the other side
Randomly lay out your pearls. Once you have a good layout, hot glue each pearl down.
Let sit so the glue dries, then dress up your dog like the pretty princess (or manly man, I suppose) that she is.
PS. Sorry for the lack of images of the process. It's pretty simple, so I thought it was OK for this one. Sadly, I erased a memory card without much attention and lost the process.

Raynor looks so chic in her cape! My girl dog was always mistaken for a boy, a pretty cape would have been useful.
ReplyDeleteI don't know your puppy looks pretty proud to be sporting that cape :)
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial.
Adorable. I want to make my pups each a cape immediately. If you don't mind me asking, why does your dog have two collars on? Is one a training collar?
ReplyDeleteYes - essentially. Her ribbon collar is used so she will always have her tags on her in the case she got lost and she always has it on. We also used it back when we had a tie out in the back yard (she could run wihtout us being next to her, but we stood out with her) and now use it on short walks. The other collar is because she pulls with all of her might - she is quite uncontrollable on her normal collar and will literally bruise her neck and throw up if walked on a normal collar. She's perfectly fine with her prong though, unless there is a squirrel.
Deleteaww this is so cute.
